Description
Enjoy a taste of Hidden Spain in this tranquil Andalucian private mountain hideaway. Located in stunning countryside close to the white village of Salares, an hour from Malaga airport, 20 minutes from Lake Vinulea and half an hour from the coast, this cortijo is ideally situated for a spacious family home or, as currently, a small hotel specialising in rural tourism.
Nestling in a river valley with over a hundred orange, lemon and other trees including nispero, walnut, fig, pear, apple, pomegranate and plum plus extensive organic vegetable gardens, this UNIQUE and special property has natural dip pools and a waterfall in the mountain spring fed river and many pretty walks leading directly from the grounds through Olive and Almond groves with magnificent views of Mount Maroma and the surrounding natural park.
The house is beautifully decorated in rustic Andalucian style and, including the wooden chalet in the garden, sleeps 11 people with ease. Surrounding the house there are sun terraces for relaxing and dining and a private swimming pool.
The main house (199m2) is full of character with features including old rustic doors, beamed ceilings and natural stone floors. The feel of a traditional old country house has been created although the property is recently built and benefits from satellite TV and broadband internet. Double front doors open into the combined living, dining and kitchen areas designed to allow convivial cooking and eating for the family or for guests. There is also a guest cloakroom on this floor.
Upstairs there is accommodation for 8 people arranged as follows:
A) 2 self contained studio apartments, each with its own door to a private terrace, a kitchen area and attractively tiled shower rooms.
B) A double room with ensuite shower room, a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities - it has access to the large roof terrace that looks down to the river and across to the mountains.
C) A double room with ensuite bathroom currently used by the owner.
All the rooms are very spacious and tastefully decorated.
A 40m2 wooden chalet stands in the 4,060m2 grounds, close to a river with natural bathing pools belonging to the property, and surrounded by orange trees. With accommodation for 2/3, it has its own terrace, an internal sunroom, a combined living room and kitchen with a wood-burning stove, a bedroom and a bathroom.
In Spring the pathways are a profusion of orchids, together with many other wild flowers and mountain herbs.
Within the vicinity there are many sleepy pueblos with bars and restaurants. Making this a superb area for walking, painting and photography or just relaxing by the pool.
This property is situated in the Axarquia region of Andalucia, only 1 hour east of Malaga Airport and 2 1/2 hours from Granada. There are many good beaches only half an hour away. The nearest Pueblo with supermarkets etc. is a mere 20 minute stroll and the cosmopolitan village of Competa is a 15 minute drive where you will find a wealth of shops selling local produce such as honey, olive oil, figs, good local wines, arts and handcrafts. There are also many excellent bars and restaurants where local tapas and seafood can be sampled.
